So this week being half term has meant a lighter calendar than usual, which I welcome every now and then. Today, normally a teaching day, I have been at home revisiting Babette Rothschild’s book Help for the Helper https://amzn.to/2Im645k and pulling together a couple of decks on supervision and self-care for clients and students next month.
It has felt good to be able to reflect on what I want to say, in particular about how to avoid compassion fatigue and burnout. Except at some point this afternoon I realised that the narrative I have been dancing to all day in my head has been one of not having enough time for my own self-care; to create time for that walk I find so therapeutic and beneficial for my own wellbeing. Oh the irony of it!
Thankfully at some point good sense prevailed and I pulled on the boots and cosy jacket and strode out to claim my reward…a glorious sunset in the New Forest. How well do you do at keeping self-care front of mind?
